Welcome to Birsley Cottage,
a charming, characterful cottage newly converted from farm buildings and set in stunning open countryside on the outskirts of the small village of Edlingham. Five minutes’ drive from the market town of Alnwick, and 15 from the majestic heritage coastline, Birsley Cottage offers stunning views, and is the perfect location for a holiday away from it all.

Your holiday

We have created a "home from home" where four (or six if two don't mind the sofabed!) can relax and unwind with all the facilities required for comfort. Only seven minutes’ drive away is our other cottage, The Bolthole, so why not book both and holiday with friends or family, spending time together, and then retiring in the evening to the privacy of your own place?

The accommodation

The accommodation (on two floors) comprises; Large open plan ground floor with high beamed ceiling having large well stocked kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer. The dining area opens to the small enclosed sheltered garden, perfect for relaxing in the sun and dining al fresco (garden furniture and barbeque are provided). The living room area has two sofas (one a sofabed) on which you can relax in front of the burner, TV/DVD player, and iPod dock . Two steps lead up from the kitchen to a family bathroom and a twin bedded room. There is also a useful utility room with washing machine.

A small flight of stairs then leads into the main double bedroom with ensuite shower room. This west-facing room has a wonderful view of the hills; at sunset on the right day, it is bathed in glorious orange light!

With our youngest guests in mind we have provided stair gates, travel cot and a high chair. Please bring your own cot linen. All bed linen and towels for four are provided. If you plan to use the sofabed, we have provided the duvet and pillows, but bring your own linen and towels.

The cottage is strictly no smoking and we don't allow pets. We know, though, of another cottage that does welcome them, and would be happy to refer you.

Northumberland

Northumberland is, in our humble opinion, England's loveliest county. Not only does it offer stunningly beautiful countryside and the best beaches in the land, it is also much less crowded than other, more obvious tourist spots. Click here if you are not familiar with the area and would like to check it out. Click here to find lots of useful local information.

There are numerous places of interest to visit -- the area has more castles than any other in the country (Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh, both right on the coast, are personal favourites), and Alnwick Castle and Gardens should not be missed. Whether your passion is sightseeing, walking, or just taking in the scenery there is something for everyone. And as Northumberland has five sheep to every one person, you will never be annoyed by crowds.

Your tummies

We have linked up with a local food company that will deliver to the cottage in advance of your arrival. They stock fresh produce, as well as soups and ready meals. There are lots of pubs and restaurants in the area, including Blakemore's at Alnwick and the Tankerville Arms in the village of Eglingham. If you prefer to dine at home, you will find all the equipment you need in the cottage, and can find two of the main supermarkets as well as a good butcher and great deli in Alnwick.

For most of our visitors once is never enough, so book early to avoid disappointment.
